High School Dual Enrollment Academy Programs
General Terms
Dual enrollment is the term given to courses in which high school students have the opportunity to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously.
Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree: An undergraduate award signifying successful completion of a prescribed course of study (60 to 76 semester credit hours) that offers specialization in a technical, business, or semi-professional field qualifying the student for employment upon graduation while providing the possibility for transfer of some credit to a senior institution. Only colleges accredited by SACSCOC are authorized to award this degree.
Associate in Arts (AA) Degree: An undergraduate award signifying successful completion of a prescribed course of study (60 to 64 semester credit hours) designed for students planning to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a baccalaureate degree in the liberal arts. Only colleges accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) are authorized to award this degree.
Associate in Science (AS) Degree: An undergraduate award signifying successful completion of a prescribed course of study (60 to 64 semester credit hours) designed for students planning to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a baccalaureate degree in the sciences or a specialized professional field. Only colleges accredited by SACSCOC are authorized to award this degree.
There are a wide variety of degrees and certifications. What your student needs after graduation depends on their career path. For example, a lawyer or teacher will need to earn at least a bachelor's degree and then earn certifications and /or licensure in addition to a four-year degree. For this path, a student will need to look into our associate degree programs. However, for a student who is interested in becoming a plumber or cosmetologist, a four-year bachelor's degree is not required. Students interested in career paths such as these would need to consider our Career Tech certifications.
